Bianca: Searching for a place to eat before Chelsea Handler’s stand-up comedy show at the State Theatre late last year was fairly easy. What was close, had decent food, an excellent wine list and offered something a little bit different to the norm? That would have to be ‘Gowings Bar & Grill’. Situated adjacent to the State Theatre and below the QT Hotel, Gowings offers a brasserie style menu with quite a large portion of the menu devoted to seafood and steaks. The QT hotel really is one of the most interesting hotels I’ve stepped into, almost transporting you to another city, I always get a kick out of the elevator ride, with sensors that detect the number of people inside and changing the music accordingly. The QT is no corporate paradise, more suited for rock stars, movie stars and those that like to pretend they are. Toning down QT’s eccentric (ness), Gowings is very refined, with lounged seating along the walls, heavyset brown chairs, bold copper light fixtures and the heart of the restaurant …
Bianca: After a big day traipsing around our old neighbourhood in Kellyville, watching the whack-jobs in ‘Gone Girl’ and eating burgers at the Tuckshop. We then continued our slothful migration towards the inner west but brought Madre along for the fun. Alex and I were uncharacteristically unsure as to where we wanted to eat and what cuisine. We literally flitted from Chinese in Concord, to Korean in Rhodes, before finally settling on the suburb: Leichhardt, most likely Italian. So the memory kicked into gear and we made our way to Little Sicily at 8pm on a Friday evening, we were kind of expecting a lull in service, maybe a half full …
My brother’s move from Sydney to Melbourne was a blessing in disguise and you’ll understand why after you read this post!! So for my brother Nick’s birthday, my family (sans Bianca) decided to go down to Melbourne and celebrate with him for the long weekend and yes that was the main reason for our travels but mine was slightly geared more towards all the food that I was dying to eat!! Before I hopped on that plane I had my trusty iPhone list of all my food destinations that were eagerly waiting for the new For Food’s Sake business cards to hit their tables (not really, but I put them down anyway!) Before I start! I thought I grew accustomed to the freezing cold after spending winter in New York, obviously I was wrong. Walking around in 9 degree weather during the day when your’re not dressed appropriately really isn’t ideal but any-ways…To ease my whining cold state my mum took me to one of her favourite places in Melbourne. Chokolait in the Hub Arcade. This …
